In a significant relief measure, the Manipur government on Thursday disbursed ₹32.85 crore to nearly 19,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently sheltered in government-run relief camps across various districts of the state.
The financial assistance was formally transferred by Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh during a function organised by the District Administration at the Alternative Housing Complex in Langol, Imphal West.
The Chief Minister also held interactive sessions with IDPs, listening to their grievances through virtual mode. Special interactions were conducted with displaced persons from Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts, ensuring their concerns were directly heard by the state leadership.
Highlighting the government’s ongoing initiatives for the welfare and rehabilitation of IDPs, Singh urged civil society organisations and members of both the Meitei and Kuki communities to shun negativity and work collectively towards peace and development. He emphasised that Manipur’s vision of becoming a developed and united state cannot be realised without the cooperation and coexistence of all its 36 communities.
The Chief Minister assured that grievances, particularly those related to health and education, would be examined in consultation with the state Cabinet. He further stated that these concerns would also be raised during his meeting with central leaders in New Delhi on Friday.
In a notable development, Singh interacted virtually with Kuki legislators for the first time, including L. M. Khoute. Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and legislator Paolienlal Haokip also joined the session via video conferencing.
Among others present at the event were Chief Secretary P. K. Goel and Minister Kh. Loken Singh, along with several legislators.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the programme, the Chief Minister remarked that while he is “not a god,” he remains committed to doing everything within his capacity for the welfare of the people. Stressing unity, he reiterated that all 36 communities of Manipur must live and move forward together.
