1.04 Kg Brown Sugar Seized in Imphal East; Two Arrested

Imphal, March 13, 2026 : In a major anti-drug operation conducted on the evening of March 12, a joint team of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Imphal East Unit and CDO/IE Unit seized approximately 1.04 kilograms of suspected brown sugar and arrested two persons during a frisking and checking operation at Yambem under Andro Police Station.

According to official sources, reliable information was received around 5:50 p.m. on March 12 regarding individuals allegedly involved in the distribution of narcotic drugs in the Yairipok–Yambem area. Acting on the tip-off and after obtaining the necessary authorization, the joint team conducted frisking and checking near Yambem High School Gate under proper supervision.

During the operation at around 6:54 p.m., two individuals riding a Honda Dio scooter (MN06SX5443) from Yairipok Ningthounai towards Yambem PHC were intercepted and detained.

Upon searching the vehicle in the presence of a Gazetted Officer, the team recovered one black plastic polythene concealed inside a green plastic polythene containing suspected brown sugar weighing approximately 1.04 kg (including packaging) from the scooter’s toolbox.

The detained individuals were identified as:

Md. Najimuddin (31) of Yairipok Ningthounai Mathak Leikai

Md. Jabir (27) of Yairipok Ningthounai, Imphal East

Items seized during the operation include:

Approximately 1.04 kg of suspected brown sugar

Mobile phones with SIM cards

One Honda Dio scooter (MN06SX5443)

Both individuals were formally arrested at around 7:05 p.m. on March 12, and the seized items were taken into possession under Section 43 of the NDPS Act, 1985.

The arrested persons, along with the seized items, have been handed over to Andro Police Station for further legal action, sources said.
