The 10th Death Anniversary of Sapam Robinhood, the young student whose death became a defining moment in Manipur’s long-standing demand for the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, was observed with solemn tribute and public participation at Awa Ching, Imphal East, today.
The event was organized by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), joined by the Manipuri Students’ Federation, various civil society organizations, student bodies, clubs, and concerned citizens.
Robinhood, then a 17-year-old Class XI student of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, was fatally injured on July 8, 2015, during a protest demanding the full implementation of the ILP system in Manipur.
His sacrifice ignited a statewide movement that intensified calls for constitutional protection of the indigenous peoples of the state.
He came to be revered as “Lamjing Meira” (the Torch Bearer), a symbol of youth-led resistance and collective identity.
At the Awa Ching memorial site, floral tributes were paid, followed by speeches and candlelight prayers to honour his memory.
