Thoubal, Dec 13 – As part of the ongoing efforts to curb wildlife hunting, the staffs of Thoubal Forest Division seized at least 12 bird trapping nets in a joint operation conducted under the guidance of Dineschandra Salam, Range officer, Thoubal forest Division and under the overall supervision of DFO Thoubal Dr. Leishangthem Jeeceelee.
According to sources, the operation was led by L. Samananda,Beat Officer,Mayai Keithel Beat Office and Kh. Herojit, Beat Officer, Yairipok Beat Office along with other staffs.The forest team conducted operation in the vulnerable areas of Moijing Makha Leikei Ekop Pat that lies within the jurisdiction of Thoubal Forest range.The bird trapping nets were found in the area and were seized by the team.A dead bird was also found being trapped in the net and it was buried in a suitable place.
The seized nets were reportedly used for hunting birds and other animals. The team also inspected the area to ensure that no further hunting activities were taking place.
Mayai Keithel Beat Officer L. Samananda urged the public to cooperate with the forest department in their efforts to protect wildlife, stating that they would continue to conduct regular drives to curb hunting activities in the area.
