15 Lakh Saplings Planted Across Manipur in Two Weeks: CM KhemchandJuly 18, 2026

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday said around 15 lakh saplings have been planted across Manipur within the last two weeks through the collective efforts of the Forest Department, various government departments, security forces, civil society organisations, and students.

Speaking at the State-Level Green Finale of the 77th Van Mahotsav Celebration 2026, held in convergence with Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0 at the City Convention Centre, Imphal, the Chief Minister said the State’s climatic conditions have changed drastically due to deforestation and stressed the need to plant more trees for the benefit of future generations.

During the programme, the Chief Minister inspected stalls displaying forest produce and forest fire-fighting equipment. He also performed the ceremonial watering of a commemorative Uthambal sapling, which will later be transplanted to the Churachand Higher Secondary School campus as the Chief Minister’s commemorative tree.

The event, organised by the Forest Department, was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, PCCF & HoFF Anuraj Bajpai, Principal Secretary (Forest, Environment and Climate Change) Arun Kumar Sinha, Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sumitra Phanjoubam, Arjuna Awardee Naorem Roshibina Devi, senior officials, teachers, and students, among others.
