“Unfortunately, we are still using 19th-century principles to deal with 21st-century children. There must be a major shift in how we manage, motivate, and guide students so that they grow into progressive individuals with a strong sense of gratitude and commitment to society,” emphasized Dr. Jonas Richard A, Professor and Life Skills Coach at Christ Jayanthi Academy, Bangalore, during the ongoing Professional Development Programme for teachers of Don Bosco institutions.
The two-day programme, held on January 20 and 21, 2026, at the Don Bosco Church Campus, Sangakpham, Imphal, brought together around 80–90 teachers from Don Bosco Langjing and Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Chingmeirong.
Dr. Jonas, widely known for his work in teacher empowerment, life skills training, and student development, led sessions focused on the Impact of Educators’ Mindset, Collaborative Excellence, and Strengthening School Brand through Teachers. The programme aimed to equip teachers with modern pedagogical approaches and 21st-century skills to better understand and guide today’s students.
Speaking to Manipur Update, Dr. Jonas praised the commitment and quality of the teachers, saying, “The way the Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Chingmeirong Fathers are managing the institutions is very impressive. Their sincere efforts in giving their best to the students are truly commendable.”
He also highlighted the innovative classroom management practices and student-focused initiatives in the schools, noting that students are greatly benefiting from these efforts.
The programme was attended by Fr. Hans Igness, Principal and Rector of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Chingmeirong, reflecting strong institutional support for teacher development. Dr. Jonas expressed deep appreciation for the guidance and motivation provided by the Principal, emphasizing that when teachers give their best, institutions naturally grow stronger.
Concluding his remarks, Dr. Jonas noted that students at Don Bosco institutions are fortunate to receive education that emphasizes quality learning, value-based education, and holistic character formation, preparing them to meet the demands of the 21st century.
