2 Vehicles Hauling Illegal Stones Seized for Violating Forest Acts in Manipur

Thoubal, Dec 16 : Joint teams of the Tengnoupal Forest Division, Thoubal Forest Division, and Heirok Police Station have seized two vehicles transporting a total of 20 cubic metres of stone boulders without permits.

Sources said the seizure took place on Tuesday at around 12.30 pm, acting on reliable information received and also on an Offence Report filed earlier regarding the illegal transportation of stone boulders in the Wabaching area, while the vehicles were coming after loading from Wabaching towards Heirok.

The vehicles, bearing registration numbers MN04C-0084 and MN04P-0915, were found carrying forest produce in clear violation of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 (as amended), the Indian Forest (Manipur Amendment) Act, 2018, and the Manipur Forest Rules, 2021, the sources added.

Officials also cited the High Court of Manipur’s order dated July 9, 2019 (PIL No. 5 of 2019), which restricts the transportation of such materials without proper authorisation.

According to the Divisional Forest Officer, Tengnoupal Forest Division, Smt. Mahamuda Begum, the seized vehicles and materials will be processed under the relevant Acts and Rules by the Office of the Authorised Officer, Tengnoupal Forest Division.
