The 21st Governor’s Cup State-Level Fencing Championship 2025 was inaugurated today at the Indoor Stadium, SAI-NERC, Takyelpat, Imphal. Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, attended the opening ceremony as the Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Bhalla emphasized that the Governor’s Cup is more than just medals and trophies, highlighting the importance of fair play, discipline, teamwork, and resilience. “Every time you take guard with the foil, the epee, or the sabre, remember that you are challenging yourself to be better than yesterday,” he said, adding that sports teach life lessons about rising after setbacks and believing in one’s abilities.
The Governor lauded the youth of Manipur for their determination and hard work and expressed confidence that many of the participants would represent India in international fencing competitions in the coming years. He also appreciated the efforts of coaches, mentors, and families who support the athletes, noting their crucial role in shaping both the future of individual players and the sporting culture of the state.
In his concluding remarks, Governor Bhalla wished all participants success and encouraged them to carry forward the values of courage, resilience, and excellence, whether they win or lose.
