23rd Annual Meeting Held, Books Released, Literary Awards Conferred

Thoubal, Dec 25 :The Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Thoubal District Branch, organised its 23rd annual meeting on Thursday at Khorirol Sanglel, Wangjing.

On the occasion, “Khori Eehul,” an annual literary journal of the Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Thoubal District Branch, was released. Moreover, four books by two authors were also formally released. Along with the book releases, two prestigious literary awards were conferred.

The programme was attended by Dr. Narengbam Rajivkumar, Principal of IRE Group of Institutes, Wangjing, as the Chief Guest. The function was presided over by Dr. Yumnamcha Mahendra Kumar, President of the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Thoubal District Branch. Khundongbam Gunamani Leima, President of Ningol Khut, Manipur (Wangjing), and noted entrepreneur and writer Dr. Laishram Jugeshor participated as Guests of Honour.

The books released at the event were “Moirangthem Rajendra gi Ashram da” (novel), “Bhisma gi Wasak Ngakpa” (radio drama), “Bhisma gi Aroiba Yaheep” (short story collection), and “Eerelpung da” (poetry).

The first three books were authored by renowned writer Moirangthem Rajendra, who is no more, while the fourth book was authored by renowned translator and writer Bhorot Sanasam from Lamding.

Senior writer Saikhom Chaoba spoke in detail about the newly released books. The editor of the journal “Khori Eehul” is renowned writer Sanasam Nabadweep.

During the programme, the “Kabi Leitanthem Ram Singh Ningsing Sahitya Mana – 2025,” awarded biennially by the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Thoubal District Branch, was presented. This year, the award was conferred on Thokchom Dollerson of Kongba Nandeibam Leikai for his poetry collection titled “Utangbi gi Lamdam da.” The award carries a cash prize of ₹10,000, a citation, and a shawl. This prestigious award was donated by late Naorem Gandhar, a renowned playwright from Kakching.

In addition, the “Moirangthem Rajendra Ningsing Khorirol Thougalloi Mana – 2025,” instituted for the first time this year, was awarded to six senior writers. The award was donated by Dr. Yumnam Mahendra Kumar, President of the Parishad, to writers above the age of 70 who have made lifelong contributions to the field of literature.

The awardees were:

  • Tongbram Babulal (Wangjing)
  • Okram Mani (Wangjing)
  • Kartik Maiba (Tentha)
  • Saikhom Chaoba (Wangjing)
  • Nahakpam Biren (Lamding)
  • Tekcham Rameshwor (Wangjing)

As part of the celebrations, Bisho Chanambam, a renowned music director (composer) from Lamding Elangbam Leikai, Thoubal District, was also honoured with a special citation in recognition of his contributions to music.

A large number of literature enthusiasts and members of the literary community attended the event.
