25 Houses Allegedly Burnt by Kuki Militants in Litan; Memorandum Moved to Justice Gita Mittal Committee

At least 25 houses were allegedly burnt down by Kuki militants in Litan beginning February 8, 2026, according to a memorandum submitted to the Justice Gita Mittal Committee through the Indigenous People’s Forum Manipur (IPFM).

The memorandum, submitted by Ashang Kasar on behalf of affected Tangkhul Naga families, alleges that the arson took place in broad daylight and claims the involvement of Kuki militants in the incident. The document also raises concerns regarding the presence of security personnel in the area at the time of the reported incident.

The Justice Gita Mittal Committee, constituted by the Supreme Court of India to examine grievances related to the ongoing situation in Manipur, is tasked with reviewing complaints and recommending appropriate measures.

In the submission, the affected families have sought an independent and impartial inquiry into the alleged role of Kuki militants, enhanced security arrangements for vulnerable villages, and rehabilitation support for those rendered homeless. The memorandum further calls for accountability and preventive measures to ensure such incidents do not recur.

As of now, there has been no official statement from security agencies or government authorities responding to the specific allegations mentioned in the memorandum.
