In a dramatic late-night operation, railway security forces foiled an alleged human trafficking attempt at Tinsukia Railway Station, rescuing 26 minors and young women who were reportedly being transported to Tamil Nadu on forged documents.
The rescue mission, jointly executed by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRPF), followed a critical tip-off from their Dibrugarh unit. Officials intercepted the group during routine checks at the busy junction and discovered discrepancies in their identification papers, triggering a deeper probe.
Initial investigations suggest the traffickers had promised the victims’ families tailoring training in Borgaon, assuring them of future employment in Tamil Nadu’s garment sector. Authorities suspect the families were unaware of the actual intent behind the journey.
Five suspects, including both men and women, have been taken into custody. One detainee, identified as Bidyut Dutta, claimed the girls were being sent to work at a textile factory — a statement investigators are currently verifying as they dig deeper into what appears to be a larger trafficking network.
Officials have lauded the swift coordination between the railway security agencies that led to the rescue. The victims are now under protective care, and their families are being contacted.
