Imphal: Jan 22 : The historic Kangla Fort in Imphal bore witness to the solemn observance of the 296th Puya Meithaba Numit (the day of the burning of the Meetei manuscript) on Wednesday.
Organized by the International Observation Committee on Puya Meithaba, the ceremony aimed to instill a deep cultural awareness among the younger generation.
Addressing the media, Moirangthem Naoton Meetei, convener of the committee, highlighted the enduring significance of the event, emphasizing its role in reminding the Meetei community of their cultural loss and ongoing efforts to reclaim their indigenous identity. He stressed the importance of imparting this historical awareness to younger generations to safeguard their rich cultural heritage.
Simultaneously, a parallel event themed “Remember, Review, and Revive for Love, Peace, and Integrity” was held at Keinou’s Lam Ahingba Lampak. The event commenced with the symbolic hoisting of the Salai Taret flag by Nongdren Khomba, Chairman of the International Observation Committee on Puya Meithaba.
The commemoration, now in its 47th consecutive year, serves to honor the resilience of the Meetei people and ensure the perpetuation of their cultural legacy.
