The 2nd Kakching Night Plaza was held yesterday (Sunday) at Kakching Bazar, marking a new chapter in the town’s evening economy. The event was jointly organized by the District Administration Kakching, Kakching Municipal Council, the Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association (KBBWA), and Nahashinggi Khongthang (NK) Kakching.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Wabagai MLA Dr. Usham Deben, Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar, SP Priyadarshini Laishram, and KBBWA President Yengkhom Rajendra, among other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, KBBWA President Rajendra said the Night Plaza was launched to boost local business ahead of Diwali and Ningol Chakouba, promote local products, attract visitors from neighbouring villages, and extend the vibrancy of Kakching’s historic Khunja 12 Keithel market into the night.
Wabagai MLA Dr. Deben emphasized that the Night Plaza would help revive the local economy and foster unity, highlighting the role of civil society and public collaboration in driving social and economic development.
Kakching MLA Rameshwar described the town as one of the most progressive in the state and announced a ₹25 crore proposal submitted to the Centre for constructing a modern market complex at Kakching Bazar. He said the new facility would further modernize the town’s commercial landscape.
The Night Plaza featured nearly 90 stalls showcasing local and traditional products, including Kakching’s famous Bora, Kabok, Soibum-based delicacies, and other indigenous items. Local entrepreneurs and internally displaced persons (IDPs) also participated, offering handmade crafts and products.
The initiative aims to create a festive atmosphere for residents and visitors, support small businesses, promote local heritage, and encourage evening tourism in Kakching.
