A three-day training program on Bamboo and Cane, a type of handicraft product, kicked off at Lambung Community Hall in Chandel district on Wednesday. The event was conducted under the RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) Scheme, initiated by DFO/Chandel.
The training program was attended by Dr. N. Munal Meitei, DFO/Chandel, as the Chief Guest; Shri Th. Bijoy Singh, General Manager, DIC/Chandel; T.S. Thoring Anal, President of Maha Area Naga Chiefs Association, as Guest of Honour; L.H. Noah, Chief of Lambung Village, as President; and Shri D.L. Indu Maring as Chief Trainer.
Dr. N. Munal Meitei stated that training programs like this can help Manipur progress economically through Bamboo and Cane products. These products are part of the unorganized sector, significantly contributing to local livelihoods. The three-day training program will focus on enhancing skills related to various handicraft products like pens, pen stands, bracelets, wooden handicrafts, wall posters, and others, Munal added.
The DFO also informed that at least 45 trainees participated in the program, aiming to register under MSME and UDAIM schemes and become entrepreneurs, leveraging the training for their development.
Dr. Munal emphasized that focusing on bamboo-cane products can bring economic stability, especially in areas affected by jhoom cultivation and poppy cultivation, where 90 percent of the State’s area covers hilly regions. He appealed to the community to adopt bamboo-cane practices for economic betterment. He also urged trainees to actively participate and benefit from the RAMP scheme’s training programs.
