A Mega Eye Camp organised as part of the State Level 26th World Sight Day observance at Chandel District Hospital today detected 36 cataract and 18 pterygium cases among 257 patients who received free eye check-ups.
The camp, conducted under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI) by the State Health Society, NHM Manipur, in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services, aimed to promote the global theme “Love Your Eyes.”
The programme was graced by Dr. N. Hemantakumar Singh, Director of Health Services, Manipur, as Chief Guest, and Dr. Joyson Mathew Monsang, Chief Medical Officer, Chandel, as President.
A total of 110 elderly beneficiaries also received free spectacles, and medicines were distributed to all participants.
Dr. Hemantakumar urged people to maintain good eye health, spread awareness about eye donation, and undergo regular screenings for hypertension and diabetes, major causes of visual impairment. He also assured that a regular ophthalmologist will soon be posted at Chandel District Hospital to strengthen eye care facilities.
