IMPHAL, 27 JAN 2025 : Manipur opened its first medal account at the 38th National Games after Sarungbam Athouba Meitei registered a remarkable win in the men’s triathlon event. Telheiba Soram added to Manipur’s tally by winning the silver medal.
The endurance event, comprising swimming, cycling, and running, started ahead of the official games opening in Dehradun. Athouba completed the race in 1:01:01, displaying impressive precision across all disciplines.
The state triathletes representing the state are Sarungbam Athouba Meitei of Imphal West, Telheiba Soram of Imphal East, and Bijenkumar Laikhuram of Imphal East, while women triathletes are Nongmaithem Nelshi Devi of Imphal East, Swety Nongmaithem of Imphal West, and Maibam Binita Chanu of Kakching.
Athouba and Telheiba will also compete in the Duathlon men’s and Mixed relay, while Bijenkumar will be in reserve. Similarly, Nelshi Devi and Swety will participate in Triathlon women’s, Duathlon women’s, and Mixed relay, while Maibam Binita Chanu will be in reserve.
