In a political turn, 44 MLAs in Manipur have expressed their collective readiness to form a popular government, claiming to reflect the will of the people.
Heirok MLA Th Radheshyam briefed reporters at the gates of Raj Bhawan today after a delegation of MLAs met the Governor to convey their intent.
“We have come to express that we are ready to form the government as per the public wish,” Radheshyam stated, adding that the Governor gave them a patient hearing and expressed his willingness to act in the interest of the people and within his constitutional mandate.
While the delegation did not specify an exact date for staking a formal claim, Radheshyam remarked, “This is just like claiming. The Governor has shown readiness to take up his role as per procedure.”
He further added that Speaker Th Satyabrata had personally met with all 44 MLAs, each of whom has agreed to the formation of a government under a united front.
With political uncertainty lingering in the state for months, today’s development signals a potential breakthrough if the Governor decides to initiate the process in accordance with constitutional provisions.
