The Jiribam Forest Division and Jiribam Police have seized as many as five vehicles transporting a total of 66 cubic metres of stone chips and boulders without valid permits.
The seizure took place during a random patrol yesterday evening around 7 p.m. in Leingnangpokpi, Jiribam.
The vehicles, bearing registration numbers AS11BC9522, AS09BC0521, MN06T3235, MZ06A2015, and MP09DU4286, were found carrying forest produce in clear violation of the Indian Forest Act, 1927 as amended, along with the Indian Forest (Manipur Amendment) 2018 and the Manipur Forest Rules, 2021.
Officials also cited the High Court of Manipur’s order dated July 9, 2019 (PIL No. 5 of 2019), which restricts transportation of such materials without proper authorisation.
A Preliminary Offence Report has been registered, and all five drivers were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Jiribam today.
According to Divisional Forest Officer Elangbam Nirmala Chanu, the seized vehicles and materials will be processed under relevant Acts and Rules by the Office of the Authorised Officer, Jiribam Forest Division.
