Thoubal, December 13: The 62nd Raising Day of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the first SSB COYS Training Centre were jointly celebrated on Saturday at Thokchom Playground, Thokchom Village, Thoubal District.
The programme was jointly organised by the Ex-SSB Personnel Welfare Association, Imphal (All Manipur SSB Pensioners Welfare Association) and the Thokchom Youth Dynamic Association (TYDA). The event commemorated the raising of the Sashastra Seema Bal in 1963 and the establishment of the first SSB COYS Training Centre at Thokchom Village in 1965, the first of its kind in Manipur.
Several senior retired SSB officers attended the function, including former President of the All Manipur SSB Pensioners Welfare Association and Retired Assistant Commandant C. H. Tombi Sharma, Retired Deputy Commandant K. Surjakumar, Retired Assistant Commandant M. Ranjit, Retired Assistant Commandant L. Jayanta Sharma, and Retired Head Constable K. Bormani, along with many members of the Manipur SSB Pensioners Welfare Association.
As part of the programme, Retired Assistant Commandant C. H. Tombi Sharma hoisted the SSB flag at the SSB Memorial Pillar located at Thokchom Village. This was followed by a floral tribute and homage paid by all the members at the Memorial Pillar in honour of the service and sacrifices of SSB personnel.
Speaking on the occasion, Retired Assistant Commandant C. H. Tombi Sharma recalled that the Sashastra Seema Bal was raised on December 13, 1963, in the aftermath of the 1962 Indo-China war, with the objective of instilling a sense of national unity among people living in border areas and ensuring the protection of the nation’s frontiers. He further stated that two years later, in 1965, the first SSB COYS Training Centre in Manipur was established at Thokchom Village in Thoubal District.
On the occasion of the Raising Day, members of the All Manipur SSB Pensioners Welfare Association expressed their happiness and pride in being part of the celebrations and paid tribute to the enduring legacy of the Sashastra Seema Bal.
