The Meitei Alliance has appealed to the Union Home Minister to abrogate the ‘Suspension of Operation’ (SoO) with Kuki-armed groups, reiterating the state government’s memorandum submitted to the Union Home Minister of India (dated February 20), urging not to re-sign the Suspension of Operation Agreement with the Kuki-armed groups.
In an open letter sent to the Union Home Minister, the Meitei Alliance stated that the renewal of the agreement would reward impunity, legitimize armed violence, and further destabilize Manipur and the Northeastern region. The letter urged the Union Home Minister to uphold the Constitution, protect national security, and stand by the people of Manipur by formally ending this failed framework.
In the letter, the Meitei Diaspora Association in India stated that the Kuki-armed groups have been the primary instigators and escalators of violence in Manipur since May 3, 2023. They allegedly use the SoO as a cover to pursue a vested agenda that has directly or indirectly contributed to:
- Infiltration into Indian soil by large-scale illegal immigrants from Myanmar who unscrupulously became Indian Scheduled Tribes.
- Exploitation of India’s affirmative action policies, illegal land acquisitions, and the founding of settler colonies.
- Ethnic demographic imbalance, deforestation, and destruction of the harmonious ecosystem.
- Illicit cross-border drug business and the spread of drug addiction in Manipur and other parts of India.
- Invitation of foreign armed groups or cadres for additional manpower and training.
- Injection of foreign funds and import of war-like arms, ammunition, and equipment.
These activities, the letter stated, exemplify a collusive sphere of influence by foreign elements that pose a threat to India’s internal security and geo-strategic interests.
