March 7, 2025: Following the expiration of the deadline set by Governor AK Bhalla for the voluntary surrender of illegally held arms and ammunition on March 6 at 4 PM, joint security forces initiated combing and search operations across several districts.
Significant recoveries were reported, including 36 arms, 129 rounds of ammunition, 7 explosives, and 21 miscellaneous items. Additionally, 12 bunkers were dismantled during the operations.
In Imphal West’s Moidangpok area, authorities seized a .32 pistol, 5 barrel guns, tear smoke munitions, and various live rounds and grenades.
In Imphal East’s Sawombung’s Paorabi village, recoveries included a 7.62 mm SLR rifle, an Amogh Carbine with magazines, pistols, and assorted ammunition. At Langmeithek Yerum Ching in Thoubal, an INSAS rifle, an SMG Carbine, revolvers, grenades, and tactical gear were confiscated.
Further recoveries in Kangpokpi’s Khengjang village comprised SLRs, pump-action rifles, cartridges, and wireless communication equipment. In Tamenglong’s Tatbung village, authorities seized locally made improvised rifles, ammunition, and additional wireless sets.
