Imphal, March 25: Manipur continued its impressive run at the 28th Sub-Junior National Championship 2026 in Ranchi, with the girls’ team clinching another gold in the Regu event, while the boys secured a bronze medal after a spirited performance.
The girls’ team displayed exceptional dominance throughout the tournament. In the league stages, Manipur registered wins against Himachal Pradesh (walkover), Karnataka (2–0), Jharkhand (2–0), Puducherry (walkover), Rajasthan (2–0), and Nagaland (2–0). Carrying this momentum forward, they defeated Delhi (2–0) in the quarter-final and overcame Maharashtra (2–0) in the semi-final.
In the final held on March 25, Manipur faced Kerala and delivered a commanding performance, winning the match 2–0. Manipur dominated the final with convincing set scores of 15–4 and 15–11, securing the gold medal in style. Their consistency, teamwork, and technical superiority were evident throughout the competition.
The boys’ team also showcased determination and fighting spirit. In a closely contested semi-final, Manipur faced Uttar Pradesh but fell short, losing 0–2 with set scores of 13–15 and 13–15. With this result, the boys secured a well-deserved bronze medal.
With the conclusion of both team and Regu events for boys and girls, Manipur has once again proven its strength in Sepak Takraw at the national level. The focus now shifts to the remaining Quad events, where the state will aim to add more medals to its tally.
Reacting to the achievement, members and officials of the All Manipur Sepak Takraw Association expressed immense pride over the team’s performance.
The association stated, “We are extremely proud of our young athletes for their outstanding performance at the national stage. The girls have once again shown why Manipur is a powerhouse in Sepak Takraw, and the boys too have fought with great determination to secure a medal. This success is the result of continuous hard work, dedication, and proper guidance from coaches and support staff.”
They further added, “We congratulate all the players and assure them of our full support as they prepare for the upcoming Quad events. We are hopeful that more medals will come our way.”
