March 23, 2026: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday stressed the need to maximise agricultural opportunities for youth through a strong startup ecosystem while attending the valedictory function of the Agri-Youth Parliament–2026 held at Central Agricultural University.
The Chief Minister inspected over 30 exhibition stalls showcasing agri-based innovations, technologies, and startup ideas by young entrepreneurs from across the North East. Interacting with participants, he appreciated the growing interest of youth in agriculture, calling it a “positive shift” for the sector.
During the programme, he also released a policy document titled “Agricultural Extension Innovations for Achieving US $1.3 Trillion North East India Economy @ 2047 (Shillong Declaration),” outlining a roadmap for transforming agriculture in the region.
Speaking at the event, Singh noted that over 50 per cent of the population is dependent on agriculture and stressed the need for renewed focus on strengthening the sector. He highlighted the importance of innovation-driven platforms in connecting young minds with real-world challenges and opportunities.
He further stated that the State Government, in consultation with the Planning Department, will explore ways to enhance benefits for youth in agriculture, particularly by integrating them into the evolving startup ecosystem.
Vice-Chancellor of CAU, Dr. Anupam Mishra, said the Agri-Youth Parliament has brought together innovators, researchers, and stakeholders to deliberate on the future of agriculture in the North East. He underscored the region’s potential to emerge as a hub for sustainable and high-value agriculture driven by youth entrepreneurship.
The event, jointly organised by CAU and Agrivision, served as a platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration aimed at strengthening market-led and sustainable agricultural development in the region.
