IMPHAL, July 14: The Public Works Department (PWD), Manipur, has announced that the ₹3,647-crore Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)-funded Manipur Urban Road, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project (MURDAMIP) has achieved an overall physical progress of 15 per cent.
The update was shared during the third edition of the “Meet the Press” programme held at the DIPR Auditorium in Imphal on Tuesday, where PWD officials outlined the status of major road, bridge and infrastructure projects being implemented across the State.
Project Director (Externally Aided Projects) and Additional Chief Engineer-III Ch. Uttam Singh said the MURDAMIP covers 547.28 km of roads across Greater Imphal, including municipal areas and 77 villages in Imphal East and Imphal West. The project, with civil works worth ₹2,883 crore, is being executed in 16 Assembly constituencies under four packages.
According to the department, Package-I has recorded 12.80 per cent progress, Package-II 20.13 per cent, Package-III 12.20 per cent and Package-IV 14.20 per cent, while expenditure has reached ₹317 crore. The project includes rigid concrete roads, drainage systems, utility corridors, walkways, bridges, road safety measures and a Road Asset Management System using Artificial Intelligence (AI), drones, GIS and remote sensing technology.
PWD officials also said the department is responsible for maintaining nearly 10,000 km of roads and around 100 bridges across Manipur. Projects are currently being implemented under various schemes, including the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), RIDF-NABARD, SASCI, MDoNER, National Highways, NEC, Externally Aided Projects and the State Budget.
The department informed that 15 CRIF road projects sanctioned in 2020-21 have largely been completed, while newer projects under subsequent financial years are progressing. Four bridges sanctioned under the Setu Bandhan Scheme are also under construction.
Under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI), rigid pavement roads covering nearly 100 km are being built in 11 district headquarters at a cost of ₹174.59 crore. Construction of 10 Working Women Hostels worth ₹149 crore is also underway.
Following the formation of the new government in February 2026, the department has sanctioned 321 development works covering all 60 Assembly constituencies during the 2025-26 financial year, with an estimated outlay of ₹319.75 crore.
PWD also highlighted ongoing National Highway improvement works on NH-137A, NH-102A, NH-02, NH-37, NH-202 and NH-102, besides NEC-funded projects including the proposed International Convention Centre at Keikol estimated at ₹166.87 crore.
Officials said the department remains committed to completing all ongoing projects on schedule while providing durable and climate-resilient infrastructure across the State.
