In the wake of the unfortunate passing of Nagaland Governor La Ganesan, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been entrusted with the additional responsibility of overseeing Nagaland. This appointment was confirmed through an official statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The communiqué stated, “Consequent upon the demise of La. Ganesan, Governor of Nagaland, the President of India has appointed Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Governor of Manipur, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Nagaland, in addition to his own duties.”
La Ganesan, who passed away on August 15 at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, was widely respected across political lines, with leaders from various parties paying tribute to his service. Born in 1945 in Tanjore, Tamil Nadu, La Ganesan’s involvement with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) began at a young age. His political journey saw him join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1991, playing a significant role in expanding the party’s influence in Tamil Nadu. Over the years, he held key positions including Organising Secretary, National Secretary, All India Vice President, and State President of Tamil Nadu BJP.
La Ganesan’s gubernatorial career included terms as Governor of Manipur from August 27, 2021, to February 19, 2023, and a brief tenure as the additional charge Governor of West Bengal from July 18, 2022, to November 17, 2022. He assumed office as the Governor of Nagaland on February 20, 2023.
Ajay Kumar Bhalla’s dual charge comes at a critical time as the northeastern states continue to navigate various political and administrative challenges. His appointment is expected to ensure continued governance and stability in Nagaland.
