Ajay Kumar Bhalla Takes Additional Charge as Nagaland Governor After La Ganesan’s Demise

Kohima, Aug 25: Ajay Kumar Bhalla, currently serving as the Governor of Manipur, was sworn in as the 22nd Governor of Nagaland, taking on the additional charge following the passing of Governor La Ganesan. The oath of office was administered at Raj Bhavan by Justice Ashutosh Kumar, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Ministers T.R. Zeliang and Y. Patton, ministers, MLAs, senior bureaucrats, and dignitaries. After the ceremony, Bhalla held his first meeting with the state cabinet at Raj Bhavan and inspected a ceremonial guard of honour.

The programme, presided over by Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen, concluded with a reception where political leaders, tribal representatives, religious figures, and civil society members welcomed the new Governor. However, members of the Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP), which has been pressing for changes to Nagaland’s four-decade-old job reservation system, were notably absent.
