Kakching, November 1: The All Kha Kanglei Students’ Union (AKKSU), Kakching, celebrated the 5th Apunba Ningol Chakkouba today at the Central Public Hall, YM High School Ground, Kakching Sangaiyumpham, bringing together women from various communities to honour the bond between sisters and maternal families.
The programme was attended by Naorem Praveen, IAS, Secretary, YAS/MOBC & SC, Government of Manipur; Naorem Sanjitkumar, Caretaker Chairperson, Kakching Municipal Council; Victoria Yengkhom, IPS, Additional Director, MPTC Pangei; Priyadarshini Laishram, MPS, SP Kakching; Pangambam Shantikumar, MCS, ADC Kakching; and Kh. Hemabati, MPS, SDPO Kakching.
Speaking at the event, Naorem Praveen, IAS, Secretary, YAS/MOBC & SC, Government of Manipur, highlighted the significant contributions of Manipuri women across all spheres of life. He said such celebrations strengthen emotional ties and preserve the cultural values of Manipuri society. He added that fostering respect, empathy, and understanding at the family and community levels can help build a harmonious society.
As part of the celebration, Ningols were presented with gifts as a gesture of love and respect. The attending Ningols also donated essential items and food provisions to Mission Blind School, Heikakpokpi, and BDS Children Home for Girls, Keirak, spreading the spirit of care and community support.
Ningols from Meitei, Meitei Pangal (Muslim), and other local communities of Kakching, along with those married and living outside the area, joined the celebration, sharing an emotional reunion with their maternal homes. Cultural performances, traditional songs, and dances added vibrancy to the programme.
AKKSU Kakching expressed gratitude to individuals, clubs, and organisations from Kakching, Waipham Shang, Kakching Khunyai Leikai, and surrounding areas for their support in making the occasion successful.
