All Along the Watchtower: State to Open Its Vigil Eyes on Illegal Migrant Movements

The State Government is all set to keep a watchful eye to avert any possible movement of illegal immigrants into the State. This includes international borders, inter-State, and inter-district boundaries, and advisories have been issued in view of the apprehension of an influx of illegal migrants into the State, especially due to the turmoil situation in neighbouring countries.

In an order issued by the Home Commissioner-cum-Secretary, if any such movement is detected, it should be immediately reported. The capture of biographic and biometric details of such persons is now mandatory.

All the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police have now been asked to maintain a robust mechanism to prevent anyone from crossing into State boundaries illegally and to ensure the utmost vigilance at international, inter-State, and inter-district boundaries so as to prevent any such movement.

Any illegal migrants, if entered, will have to be placed at a secured designated location for providing shelter and humanitarian support without allowing them to get mixed up or naturalised with the local populace. All such illegal migrants shall be deported after following due procedures.

All DCs are also advised to constitute a district-level committee with members from the district police to conduct checks at all suspected locations and shall conduct regular reviews of the same.
