All Gujarat Ministers Resign Ahead of Cabinet Reshuffle, CM Bhupendra Patel to Form New Cabinet

All ministers in the Gujarat government, except Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, have submitted their resignations ahead of a planned cabinet reshuffle. The Chief Minister has accepted the resignations and is expected to meet Governor Acharya Devvrat later today to stake a claim and form a new cabinet.

Sources indicate that only Harsh Sanghavi and Rushikesh Patel are likely to be retained from the current team. The move is seen as part of an administrative overhaul ahead of key political developments in the state.

As part of the process, BJP national president J.P. Nadda will meet all Gujarat MLAs for dinner at CM Patel’s residence at 8 PM, followed by the Chief Minister meeting the Governor at 9:30 PM to submit the list of ministers for swearing-in.

The Gujarat cabinet, currently comprising 17 ministers—eight holding cabinet rank and an equal number serving as Ministers of State—will see significant changes. Around 10 new ministers are expected to be inducted, with nearly half of the current ministers likely to be replaced.

Under state assembly provisions, Gujarat can have up to 27 ministers, or 15 percent of the total 182-member House. Earlier this month, Jagdish Vishwakarma was appointed as the new BJP Gujarat unit president, succeeding Union Minister C.R. Paatil. Bhupendra Patel first became Chief Minister in 2021 and was sworn in for his second term on December 12, 2022.
