March 16, 2026 (IMP): To prevent any artificial price hike of essential commodities ahead of the forthcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, the All Manipur Muslim Students’ Organisation (AMMSO-HQ) submitted a written appeal to the Department of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (CAF & PD), Government of Manipur, on Monday.
The AMMSO-HQ observed that during major festivals, some traders and vendors tend to artificially increase the prices of essential commodities such as rice, edible oil, sugar, flour, pulses, meat, vegetables, and other daily necessities. Such practices create serious hardship for the general public, especially for economically weaker sections of society.
The AMMSO-HQ requested the department to closely monitor market prices of essential commodities across the state and to conduct regular market inspections to prevent artificial price hikes and hoarding. The student body also appealed to ensure fair pricing so that essential commodities remain affordable for the public during the Eid-ul-Fitr festival and to take necessary legal action against traders or vendors who violate the government’s price regulations.
