The All Manipur Muslim Students’ Organisation (AMMSO-HQ) submitted a memorandum to the Commissioner of the Department of University and Higher Education for the welfare and educational advancement of the minority Muslim (Meitei Pangal) community and for the educational and socio-economic upliftment of the community.
The memorandum calls for the implementation and strengthening of the reservation policy in higher education institutions, including universities, professional colleges, and technical institutes.
The memo also seeks enhancement of OBC reservation from the existing 4% for the OBC Meitei Pangal community to 8%, considering the socio-economic backwardness and educational disparity faced by the community.
The AMMSO also asked for the establishment of separate boys’ and girls’ hostels for Meitei Pangal students in Meitei Pangal areas, the upgrade of Lilong Haoreibi College to postgraduate level, and the upgrade of Abdul Ali High School to Higher Secondary level.
