March 2, 2025:The All-Manipur Progressive Student Association (AMPSA), the student body, has expressed deep concern over ongoing administrative mismanagement and violations of academic and financial norms under the current Vice-Chancellor’s tenure at Manipur University.
AMPSA, in a release, stated that the student body is committed to exposing these serious allegations, which they claim are damaging the university’s reputation, undermining student welfare, and breaching institutional transparency.
The release highlights several alarming issues, including the rise in backdoor appointments and financial irregularities. Over 40 contractual staff members were allegedly recruited through non-transparent means, bypassing established hiring processes, which, according to AMPSA, weakens meritocracy and institutional accountability.
The release further alleges that key administrative roles were handed to probationary faculty members, which violates UGC norms. Additionally, the administration’s failure to address basic student welfare needs, such as incomplete hostel accommodations and inadequate essential services, has caused significant hardship for students.
Despite these issues, the administration allegedly prioritized backdoor appointments and failed to manage infrastructure repair projects properly, with reports of financial mismanagement in relation to works triggered by hailstorm damage.
AMPSA also claims that certain faculty members associated with the Vice-Chancellor have multiple roles, leading to inefficiencies and poor decision-making at the university.
The release calls for immediate action to address these concerns and restore integrity and transparency in the university’s operations.
