AMSU Reflects ‘Idea of Manipur’ Beauty, Supports CM Khem’s Peace-Building Dialogues

March 24, 2026 (IMP): The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) considered Manipur CM Y. Khemchand’s recent meeting with the Kuki-Zo Council in Guwahati on March 21 as a right and correct step, and an initiative to restore long-awaited peace and harmony in the state, which has been intensely ravaged by inter-community conflict lingering for the past three years.

Every conflict among communities, historically in the world and in Manipur, has been addressed and brought to a conclusion through proper talks and political dialogue, said a statement issued by AMSU Publicity and Information Secretary Y. Clinton Mangang.

The student body also hopes that CM Y. Khemchand will not undermine or compromise the ‘Idea of Manipur’ while undertaking the peace-building dialogue and will bring it to a peaceful conclusion.

AMSU also stated that this crisis in Manipur has been deeply affecting the student community, and the student body is empathetic about the challenges faced by students who are IDPs. At this juncture, AMSU considered the restoration of peace as an indispensable need for the future generation and stated that the student body has been standing for the welfare of students from time to time.

It further stated that if the turmoil continues and peace is delayed, developmental activities in the state will also be delayed. It is high time to understand the economic impact of the conflict, as people are affected both directly and indirectly.

AMSU also observed that there is still a trust deficit among communities that needs to be bridged, as shown by ground realities. The deficit is not confined to Meitei-Kuki relations but has also emerged between Tangkhul Naga and Kuki, which threatens the ‘Idea of Manipur’.

The student body reiterated its hope that CM Y. Khemchand will not undermine or compromise the ‘Idea of Manipur’ while initiating and undertaking peace-building dialogue and will bring it to a peaceful conclusion.
