The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) has voiced strong opposition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Manipur on September 13, alleging that the trip is more about electoral gains than addressing the state’s ongoing turmoil.
Speaking to reporters, AMUCO president Nando Luwang said that the people of Manipur would have welcomed the Prime Minister wholeheartedly had he come during the initial outbreak of violence.
Instead, he stressed, residents have been left to face two years of unrest and suffering without adequate intervention from the Centre.
He further argued that a few-hour stopover focused on inaugurations and laying foundations cannot heal the wounds of the people.
According to AMUCO, public expectations from the Prime Minister have faded, as his prolonged silence and lack of concrete steps have deepened disillusionment across the state.
