Another minor has been reportedly raped and murdered in the Churachandpur district of Manipur, and this is the fourth case being reported from the district within the past 4 months. On March 20, one 9-year-old girl from a relief camp was reported to have been raped and found dead in the vicinity of Lanva TD Block, and on April 4, another 10-year-old girl was reported to have been raped on the Western side of Lamka.
The latest incident is being reported from Leijangphai in Thanlon sub-division on Friday afternoon, where the victims, a mild “mentally challenged” person, had gone to collect firewood at the nearby forest areas. According to the source, her body was found with her clothes torn and with injury marks on the body, and the district police have picked up one suspect, and an investigation is now underway.
The incident came to light when the victim’s father, along with a few locals, went in search of her, looking into the forest area when her minor daughter failed to return home. The incident has sent utter shock and horror.
Condemnation has poured in against the incident from various civil groups in CCpur; the Zomi Mother Association demands a trial at the fast-track court.
