Feb. 18, 2025 : In a significant move to combat leprosy and raise awareness, the District Health Society Leprosy Unit, Noney, organized the Anti-Leprosy Day Observance and launched the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign 2025 at the Noney PHC.
The campaign was held under the theme “Together, Let Us Raise Awareness, Dispel Misconceptions, and Ensure That No One Affected by Leprosy is Left Behind.”
The event was graced by prominent speakers, including Md. Majid Ali, State Program Coordinator of the National Leprosy Eradication Program (NLEP), and Dr. Azin Maringmei, District Leprosy Officer, Noney, who shared the dais and provided valuable insights on the importance of early detection and eradication of leprosy.
The program was attended by medical officers, ASHA workers, nurses, and ASHA facilitators, all of whom play an essential role in the fight against this debilitating disease.
A parallel program was also held at Haochong PHC in Noney District, where medical officers, healthcare workers, village leaders, and ASHA volunteers gathered to discuss strategies for leprosy prevention and detection.
Md. Majid Ali highlighted the increasing number of leprosy cases in the state, stressing the importance of early detection and the detrimental impact of social stigma, especially in families living below the poverty line.
He encouraged healthcare workers, particularly ASHAs, to actively search for and detect leprosy in their respective communities.
He also emphasized the incentive system, where ASHAs can earn recognition or cash rewards for their efforts in identifying and helping to treat leprosy cases.
