‘Arambai Tenggol’ Backs Manipur Government’s Crackdown on Illegal Immigrants

Arambai Tenggol, a socio-cultural group active in Manipur, has extended its support to the state government’s recent directives to detect and deport any illegal immigrants in the state. The statement of support was made public during a press briefing held this morning at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, by the group’s CMP Commissioner, Munindro Luwang.

Luwang described the directive as a necessary response to concerns about demographic changes and their impact on indigenous communities and regional security. He referred to the state government memorandum (No. H-802/19/2021-HD-HD, dated July 23, 2025), which outlines measures to tackle what officials describe as a growing challenge of illegal immigration in the state.

According to Luwang, Arambai Tenggol has for years called for measures such as the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and similar frameworks to address immigration-related issues. He said the organization would cooperate with authorities in implementing the memorandum, including efforts related to verification and deportation.

The group’s statement emphasized that illegal immigration has become a pressing issue affecting social stability, economic conditions, and national security in Manipur. It also called for sustained follow-up measures to ensure that the directive forms part of a broader strategy rather than a one-time intervention.
