JAN 22, 2026 (IMP): Armed miscreants, suspected to be UKNA, snatched a Meitei man from his Kuki wife at gunpoint from the Tuibong area of Churachandpur on Wednesday evening and later finished him off by firing at his torso in the Natjang area of Henglep.
Moments before the execution, the man, with his folded hands, begged them, but instead they fired at his torso, and he immediately fell to the ground, according to the videos that have now gone viral.
According to reports, the man has been identified as Mayanglambam Rishikanta, son of M. Tombi Singh, from the Uchal Makhong area of Kakching Khunou, and he had gone to meet her, Chingu Haokip, from the Tuibong area of Churachandpur. Both were said to have been kidnapped by the three armed miscreants on the evening of January 21.
The man was visiting to meet her for the first time since the ethnic strife broke out in the state, and unconfirmed reports say she had also taken prior permission from local authorities, including representatives of KNO and Tuibong area leaders, to allow him to visit her for a few days. The man was reportedly returning from Nepal on leave.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports say authorities are making efforts to trace the body in the Henglep area of the Churachandpur district of Manipur, and locals in Kakching Khunou in the morning gathered and staged a sit-in demonstration at a Kakching Khunou market shed against the incident, demanding justice.
