In a surprise wee-hour drone attack by the Indian Army at several mobile camps of ULFA-Independent, located near the Myanmar border, one top leader identified as self-styled Lieutenant General Nayan Medhi, alias Nayan Asom, was killed, and 19 other cadres of the proscribed outfit were injured.
Self-styled Brigadier Ganesh Lahon is one among the 19 injured in the attack carried out between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. today, and the ULFA (I) has claimed that the Indian Army executed the attack using Israeli- and French-manufactured drones and targeted multiple bases of the Sanyukta Mukti Bahini, Assam, up to the Panchopas area along the international border.
In a statement issued by ULFA (I), they condemned the attack as “barbaric and cowardly,” asserting that the aggression by Indian military forces further validates their historical and political justification for armed resistance.
“The Indian state must realize that no matter how many such attacks are carried out, we will not abandon our legitimate right to sovereign independence. As long as a single freedom fighter of the United Liberation Forces of Assam remains, the revolution will continue,” the statement said.
Further developments are awaited. No official comment has been made yet by Indian defense or government sources regarding the reported operation.
