Imphal, Manipur | March 2, 2026: Two serving personnel of the Indian Army delivered standout performances at the 40th State Level Taekwondo Championship 2026, claiming gold medals and securing qualification for the forthcoming India Taekwondo National Championships.
The championship was held at Standard College, Kongba, in Imphal East and organised by the Manipur Amateur Taekwondo Association. The event brought together leading taekwondo practitioners from across the State in a highly competitive tournament.
Lance Naik A. Akash Singh captured the gold medal in the Kyorugi event in the Under 58 kg Senior Men category. In the Poomsae discipline, Lance Naik L. Deepak Singh secured gold in the Under 30 years Senior Men category. Their performances earned them the opportunity to represent Manipur at the national level.
Both soldiers are currently stationed at Leimakhong. Despite demanding military assignments, they maintained rigorous training routines, demonstrating a strong commitment to sporting excellence.
Their success highlights the growing sports culture in Manipur and reflects the Indian Army’s continued support for nurturing athletic talent alongside professional service.
