ASF Outbreak in Kakching and Churachandpur, Govt Prohibits Movement of Infected Pigs, Pig Feed, or Infected Materials

Imphal, November 13, 2025: The Directorate of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Services, Government of Manipur, has officially notified the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Kakching and Churachandpur districts of Manipur.

Due to the outbreak, the movement of pigs, pig feed, or infected materials from the infected and surveillance zones is strictly prohibited. The disposal of pig carcasses in rivers, ponds, canals, or open areas is punishable by law.

The department stated that ASF affects pigs and wild boars but does not infect humans — it is not a public health risk. Control and containment measures are being actively implemented under the National Action Plan for ASF (2020).
