Feb. 2, 2025: As if cutting off the string of ‘Local Pablo Escobars’ planned party for making ‘Assam High,’ Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a most hilarious yet again inspiringly witticious post, nailed the illegal poppy cultivators of the Char Area in Goalpara district of Assam, wherein the CM posted, “Dear Local Pablo Escobars, Sorry to spoil your planned Udta Assam party! Because Goalpara Police destroyed 170 Bighas of poppy cultivation in the Char areas worth ₹27.20 crore in January.”
The post created a sensation on social media, garnering over 4,798 shared clicks, and his buddy, Manipur CM N. Biren Singh, sharing the post, wrote, “My deep appreciation for the decisive measures taken in Assam, under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma ji, in addressing the challenges posed by the cultivation of poppy. We stand together and remain resolute in our shared goal of building a future where every youth of the NE is protected, nurtured, and given the opportunity to thrive free from the shadow of drugs.”
The said post was accompanied by a video of police destroying the poppy cultivation at Sitalmari Char under Chunari Police Station. The operation was carried out under the leadership of ASP (HQ) Goalpara and OC, Lakhipur Police Station, in the presence of the Circle Officer of Lakhipur, the Excise Inspector, and other officials in Assam.
