For the students preparing for the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations in 2026 in Assam, the Assam government has rolled out a new monthly financial assistance of Rs. 300 for the students till their exams are over, and the said amount is to be transferred directly to students’ bank accounts to ensure transparency and timely support.
The new scheme was announced by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma through social media interactive videos on Friday, and he further said the Assam government will provide free admission to colleges for students, strengthening educational access across the state.
Recently, the Assam government also launched the ‘Nijut Moina’ scheme, a programme aimed at empowering girl students and combating child marriage. Under this scheme, all girl students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 1,000. With a budgetary allocation of Rs. 1,500 crore and nearly 10 lakh beneficiaries expected, Nijut Moina aims to enhance girls’ financial independence, delay early marriages, and significantly improve the gross enrollment ratio of girls in higher education.
