Assam Rifles and IIIT Manipur Forge Drone Tech Partnership, Launch Advanced Training Course

In a move blending defence and academia, Assam Rifles and the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur today inaugurated a partnership in drone technology with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Mantripukhri.

The ceremony, attended by Maj Gen Ravroop Singh, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), and the Director of IIIT Manipur, highlighted the growing importance of drones in modern warfare and national security.

Both leaders stressed the urgent need for indigenisation and faster adoption of unmanned systems within defence frameworks.

Marking the occasion, an Advanced Drone Training and Refresher Course was launched for Assam Rifles personnel, designed to provide hands-on expertise in flight operations, maintenance, and DGCA-aligned certification.

The programme will strengthen surveillance, reconnaissance, and logistics capabilities in challenging terrains.

The MoU exchange, followed by an interactive session led by IIIT faculty on indigenous drone innovation, highlighted the potential of collaborative learning.

Nearly 80 participants, including defence personnel and faculty, joined the event, reflecting a shared vision of building a more agile and tech-driven security force.
