March 2, 2025 : The Assam Rifles conducted a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Sehlon, Chandel district, to honour the bravery and sacrifice of Jemadar Lal Bahadur Vishwakarma, Rifleman Jit Bahadur Thapa, Rifleman Sarbadhan Sunar, and Rifleman T.K.C. Varkey. These brave soldiers laid down their lives during an intense counter-insurgency operation in Aizawl, Mizoram, on March 2, 1966.

The attack occurred on the night of February 28, 1966, when MNF rebels launched a series of coordinated assaults on key locations in Mizoram, including the Aizawl district treasury and police camps. Their offensive later targeted the Assam Rifles Battalion Headquarters in Aizawl, attempting to destabilize the region. Amidst these hostilities, a patrol party led by Jemadar Lal Bahadur Vishwakarma was ambushed near a school by MNF insurgents. Despite their courageous resistance, the patrol suffered fatal casualties.

During the ceremony, senior officials of Assam Rifles laid wreaths and recounted the heroism of the fallen soldiers, inspiring the force with their legacy. More than 120 Assam Rifles personnel paid their respects, laying wreaths and honouring the martyrs for their supreme sacrifice.
