Imphal, 30th June: A 19-year-old pregnant woman from Kangpokpi district was successfully evacuated to Government Medical College, Imphal, by Assam Rifles personnel on June 29 after developing labour complications in a remote village.
The woman, a resident of Manamjang village, experienced labour pains while at Janglenphai village and was initially taken to the Keithalmanbi Garrison Unit Hospital. Medical personnel examined her and diagnosed her with a full-term pregnancy in the first stage of labour with ruptured membranes, making immediate transfer to the tertiary care hospital in Imphal necessary.
Following initial stabilisation, a combined team of five Assam Rifles medical personnel and troops transported her to Government Medical College, Imphal. During the journey, the team provided continuous medical monitoring and security support while navigating challenging road conditions.
The evacuation highlights the importance of rapid medical response in remote areas, where difficult terrain and limited access to specialised healthcare often delay treatment. The coordinated effort ensured that the expectant mother received advanced medical care in time for a safe delivery.
