In an operation against criminal networks operating along the Indo-Myanmar border, Assam Rifles, in coordination with police and paramilitary forces, apprehended a suspect allegedly involved in extortion and arms smuggling in Moreh’s Haolenphai area of Tengnoupal district.
According to defence sources, the joint cordon and search operation was launched in the early hours of August 26 after credible intelligence inputs.
During the house-to-house search, one individual was detained and a mobile phone suspected to contain incriminating evidence of extortion and weapon trafficking was recovered.
Officials said the seized device is expected to provide key leads into the wider nexus of criminal elements operating in the border region.
The apprehended person, along with the recovered material, was handed over to Pallel Police Station in Kakching district on August 27 for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
