Tengnoupal | April 18
In a major crackdown on illegal timber trade, the Assam Rifles intercepted 23 trucks transporting timber without valid permits in the Kampang Khullen area of Tengnoupal district on April 16, 2025. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb forest resource smuggling, a known source of funding for Valley-Based Insurgent Groups (VBIGs).
Upon interception, drivers failed to present valid documentation, leading to the detention of the vehicles and seizure of the timber. The Forest Department was promptly informed and carried out a field verification on the same day.
Following official communication from the District Forest Office, the seized trucks were released on April 17. Forest officials estimated the value of the timber at around ₹14.28 lakh.
