In a counter-explosive operation, Assam Rifles today safely disposed of an unexploded bomb discovered at Serou Makha Lekhai in Kakching district, averting what could have been a major disaster.
The device was first spotted last night by a local grazer, who immediately alerted authorities. Police, after confirming it to be an explosive, sought urgent support from Assam Rifles.
Acting promptly, a team of the force cordoned off the site, informed nearby villagers, and launched precautionary measures to secure the area.
A specialised bomb disposal unit later carried out a detailed reconnaissance before executing a controlled detonation in the early hours today.
