In a major crackdown on illegal trade, Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Indian Army, seized a large consignment of contraband cigarettes near the Moreh–Chandel route in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district on June 23.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs about suspicious movement along the route, the joint team intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number MN01AS4250 near a football ground adjacent to Road Opening Party (ROP) Picket No. 18.
Upon inspection, the team recovered 28 packages containing approximately 14,000 boxes of Win Win brand cigarettes, each box containing 20 sticks. The estimated market value of the seized items is pegged at ₹14 lakh.
The vehicle and the seized contraband are being handed over to the local police for further investigation.
Security forces continue to maintain heightened vigilance in border areas to curb smuggling and illegal cross-border activities.
